Client Advocacy Specialist - Instructor

The Instructor-Client Advocacy Specialist works with the Client Advocacy Program Coordiantor, the Program Director, and Lead Instructors to implement the vision of person-centered programming at Marin Ventures. He/She is responsible for teaching and training clients and stays actively engaged with clients during classes and activities. The Client Advocacy Instructor-Specialist will work hand in hand with the Program Coordinator to implement process and tools for bringing person-centered decision making to clients’ Individualized Service Plans and all program service activities. The Instructor-Specialist is the subject matter expert for and prepares and plans activities for the program in client advocacy, as well as completing tasks and duties.

Qualifications:

  • 2 years of experience working with people with developmental disabilities.
  • 1 year of experience delivering person-centered programming.
  • 2 years of work experience and a High School Diploma (or equivalent) or any combination of education and experience which would provide an opportunity to acquire the knowledge and ability to perform the duties listed below.
  • Must be 18 years old.
  • Current California driver’s license, good driving record, and insured three-passenger car.

Responsibilities:

  •  Assists in monitoring compliance with all applicable laws and regulations regarding services for adults with developmental disabilities including reporting suspected abuse or neglect.
  • Implements specialized activities in Client Advocacy in coordination with the Program Coordinator according to program standards and expectations as determined by the Program Director. Develops and prepares materials for program classes and activities for all Marin Ventures Programs.
  • Acts as a resource and trains staff in implementing client advocacy activities as appropriate.
  • Teaches clients and facilitates client participation in program activities including, but not limited to, client employment and Adult Education classes, personal care and hygiene, lunch activities, and in community settings. Supports clients’ maximum independence and completes any tasks or self-care the client cannot complete.
  • The Specialist will focus on implementing activities reflecting client preferences and ISP objectives. Documents progress of Individualized Service Plan objectives. Shares observations regarding client progress or concerns with Program Coordinators.
  • Implements daily activity schedule including special events and program vehicle use. Records changes in daily client schedules or staff duty assignments. Assists Program Coordinator with implementing staff schedules and duty assignments.
  • All other duties as assigned.
